Pending CourtQueens Man Indicted in Service Dog Killing and Burning Case
Queens prosecutors say Isaiah Gurley was indicted on animal cruelty and other charges after allegedly killing a male pit bull named Square K, a relative's service dog, and burning the dog's body on a public street in South Ozone Park.
Case details
The Queens District Attorney's Office says Gurley was arraigned on a seven-count indictment charging aggravated animal cruelty, fifth-degree arson, second-degree harming a service animal, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, second-degree reckless endangerment and petit larceny. Prosecutors say surveillance video allegedly showed him dragging the unconscious dog by a leash, dousing the dog with oil and setting the body on fire. An ASPCA post-mortem determined the dog was killed before being burned and had suffered blunt-force trauma to the head. The indictment is an accusation and Gurley is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
